Report: Rihanna Scores $25 Million From Amazon For Unfiltered Documentary
Citing sources close to the deal, THR has revealed that Rih is believed to have inked a lucrative partnership with Amazon which’ll bring a raw, unfiltered documentary about her life to their Prime streaming service.
Directed by Peter Berg, the as yet untitled doc has been in the production for years and centers on Rih’s evolution.
Boasting unparalleled access into the star’s life and more than 1,200 hours of footage – zoning in on her personality, humor, work ethic, family love, and more.
It extends Rih’s relationship with the media giant, after they broadcast her widely praised ‘Savage X Fenty’ show.
Amazon are said to have been part of a fierce bidding war, which saw streaming services making the highest offers. They are reported as paying a whopping $25 million for the exclusive rights.
Briefly speaking on the doc during its development, Berg shared:
“… to go travel with Rihanna around Europe, and Rihanna is surrounded by girls. We were in Nice [France]. She was going to do a concert on Bastille Day. And that truck driver who killed all those people plowed through them right in front of our hotel. So even in me trying to do something light, I had a very, very front row seat to something that horrific.”
Suffice to say, it looks like it’ll be delving into the bright and darker sides of Rih’s day-to-day.
Here’s hoping the doc is paired with the arrival of new music, as the synergy would be a wise move to amplify buzz for both.
Because, as the likes of Beyonce‘s ‘Homecoming’ on Netflix proved, when done properly the results can be amply beneficial.
